Inútil Paisagem - Milton Nascimento e Jobim Trio

A Concert Review 50 Years of Bossanova

When I was a kid, bossa nova and disco were par of the suburbia
cultural back ground. Who would ever imagine that one day I would
stand the chance to see Milton Nascimento and the Trio Jobim playing
live. The man who sang with a woman’s voice and the Trio Jobim with
grandson and son of A.C. Jobim.
The concert was impressive. I had never seen anything live from Jobim’s
family or Milton Nascimento before. The thing that called my attention
(because musically they sounded very good)was that the singer rarely
look at the band, no eye contact, counting nor a simple intro, it was
amazing how Milton traveled from one song to another, (another rhythm
and melody) without any warning whatsoever to the band, and since most of his
repertoire hold some world wide hits from a few decades, the audience
new in its majority what this guy accomplished because the band; the
band followed right behind to the bit. Called practice or repetition, but they had it.
I don’t recall, but I think the base player was local, I did like his
style, (after all he was playing with three icons in the history
of Brazilian music). If there is a one “A la mode” option for that
concert, I mean that small seed planted by one performer into the
audience, that will trigger the rush to the music store the next day
and find anything you can get your hands on about it? In my opinion it
was not Milton Nascimento with his impeccable performance, it was not
Paulo Jobim and his outstanding guitar craft, it was not Paolo Braga
with drums and percussion neither, for me that artist that took my
being into Boo-Boo Records the next day, was indeed Daniel Jobim.
He is that difference, warm personality, outspoken and when he
played everyone listened. The piano felt so soft and smooth like his
granfather playing Garota de Ipanema. Daniel Jobim style and natural
talent, leaded our souls into the act at every time his solo came, and
from that moment the rest didn’t matter, really.
